Schindler (Chile) S.A., after winning in 1998 the Chilean National Quality Award, based on the Malcolm Baldrige model, has been now recognized with the First Ibero American Quality Management Award "IAQMA" in the private mid-size companies category, handed over at the year 2000 State and Goverment Heads Summit of Portugal, Spain and Latin American countries in Panama. The "IAQMA" was handed over by the Chilean President Ricardo LAGOS to SAN's Managing Director Manuel SEGURA, on November 17, 2000, in front of the King of Spain, 20 State and Government Heads, the First Ladies, Foreign Affairs Ministers, the 18 "IAQMA" finalist and other 400 guest attending the State Dinner of the above mentioned Summit. The other two winners were VITRO FIBRA of Mexico (private big size companies category) and the Town Hall of Espluges de Llobregat /Spain (public big size entities category). Awards in the other three categories were not assigned. What is the IAQMA ? The IAQMA is basicly a Management Tool to improve performance and results of public and private companies. It was created by the Ibero American Quality Management Foundation following an initiative established at the Eighth Ibero American State and Goverment Heads Summit held 1998 in Oporto - Portugal. Winners and Finalist on National Quality Awards were invited early this year to contest for the First "IAQMA". The evaluation criteria are established at the Ibero American Quality Management Model , based on an advanced version of the EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) model. In 1998, Schindler in Chile was awarded with the Chilean National Quality Award too, a prize based mainly on the US' Malcolm Baldridge Award, administered by the National Productivity and Quality Center of Chile, an entity which includes representatives of the State (Economy and Labor Ministries), the Confederation of Unions and the Industry & Commerce Association, headed by the Vice-Minister of Economics. |
